Excerpt:

Listening to Alex say that he had always thought of me tugged at my heart. Could that really be true? Alex. If it hadn’t been for seeing both Jay and then Granny, I might not have believed it. Granny was unmistakable. There was no way I’d ever forget her. Time might have aged her appearances, but to me she’d held onto her timeless beauty as the grandmotherly figure I’d loved so much. Then there was Alex. I had stared at him and thought of the possibilities of him being my Alex. Really my first real love. My best friend from way back when.

More than anything, I wanted to open the door. However, doing that would open the wounds that now were faded scars. I had waited for him after we moved. He had promised he’d come for me.

My Review:

What a powerful read! This story was as real as it could be in the feelings for the heroine. She has a hard life that keeps getting worse yet deep down she still has hope that it will get better. She doesn’t know where the feeling comes from but it is there is her need to keep fighting. Josie does a marvelous job of seeing the struggle that goes on with our female lead. She is strong, determined, and trust no one. Well that’s not all together true. She trusted one boy long ago but he let her down when it mattered most. She has been fighting to stay true to herself and what she knows to be right and wrong ever since.

When she runs into Alex the shock almost makes her run once again, it is her go to. When things get dangerous she always has an exit plan. She has a new name, new look, there is no way he will remember her, right? Wrong, he does and it drives poor Alex crazy until he gets it confirmed one way or the other. The new waitress at his favorite bar tunes him on like only one girl ever did, but this girl looks different and says her name is Sarah not Cory. He decides to ask her out and go from there.

I really loved this book because of the trust and leap of faith it took for both characters to move forward. They needed to forget the past and figure out what the future might hold, if Cory/Sarah can stay alive that is. There is suspense, passionate love, and fun moments you don’t want to miss. I can’t say more without ruining the story. This is in a series but can be read as a stand-alone. Just buy it and enjoy!

***I received this ARC for my honest review***

Excerpt Reveal: I Knew You Were Trouble by Lauren Layne

A feisty beauty must choose between winning back Mr. Right
or giving in to Mr. Wrong.

I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE
Oxford Series #4
Lauren Layne
Releasing June 13, 2017
Loveswept

New York City’s hottest bachelors are stirring up trouble in this fun, flirty Oxford Novel, as a love triangle forces a feisty beauty to choose between winning back Mr. Right or giving in to Mr. Wrong.

Taylor Carr has it all—a sleek job in advertising, a stunning Manhattan apartment, and the perfect man to share it with: Bradley Calloway. Even after Bradley dumps her for a co-worker on move-in day, Taylor isn’t worried. She’ll get her man eventually. In the meantime, she needs a new roommate. Enter Nick Ballantine, career bartender, freelance writer—and longtime pain in Taylor’s ass. Sexy in a permanent five-o’clock-shadow kind of way, Nick knows how to push Taylor’s buttons, as if he could see right through to the real her.

Nick’s always trying to fix people, and nobody could use a good fixing more than Taylor. Sure, she’s gorgeous, with mesmerizing silver eyes, but it’s her vulnerability that kills him. Now that they’re shacking up together, the chemistry is out of control. Soon they’re putting every part of their two-bedroom apartment to good use. Then Taylor’s ex comes crawling back to her, and Nick figures she’ll jump at the chance to go back to her old life—unless he fights for the best thing that ever happened to him.

PRE-ORDER TODAY!

Bradley froze when he saw her, and she was pretty sure she saw the urge to turn and run flicker across his face.
Again she felt a stab of disappointment. In him. And in herself for apparently having misread him. She’d thought he was better than this.
Bradley’s eyes moved between her and Nick, and though he didn’t look all that surprised at seeing them bickering, his gaze grew hard as he saw Nick’s hand on Taylor’s face.
Nick, naturally, took his sweet time removing it, and she resisted the urge to kick his shin.
“Morning, Bradley,” Taylor said, pleased that her voice sounded calm and friendly. As well it should. She’d had plenty of practice over the better part of a year pretending that she and Bradley were nothing more than colleagues.
Other than a few close friends who knew they were dating, they’d done a mostly decent job of hiding their romantic relationship from coworkers. Better than she and Nick had done hiding their antagonistic one.
“Hey, Taylor. Nick,” Bradley said.
He entered the room and reached for a coffee mug, turning his attention toward the other man. “Didn’t realize you’d taken on another assignment. What for?”
“Not sure,” Nick said, checking his watch. “Have a meeting with Cassidy in a few to find out.”
“Here’s hoping it’s an offsite gig that takes you far, far away. Maybe he needs someone to cover Siberian winters,” Taylor said to Nick, even as she watched Bradley out of the corner of her eye.
“Don’t need to travel to find severe winter. It doesn’t get any chillier than right here,” Nick retorted, waving his hand over her head in a storm cloud gesture.
She shoved his hand aside, her attention still on Bradley, who was determinedly avoiding her gaze.
Coward.
It was going to be darn hard to get him to see reason when he wouldn’t even make eye contact.
Nick, ever too perceptive for his own good, noticed the tension and gave a quick look between her and Bradley, his gaze turning speculative.
She shot him a warning look that clearly said, Dont.
He shot an answering smile that clearly said, Watch me.
“Bradley, don’t suppose you’re in the market for a roommate?” Nick asked, his voice deceptively casual.
Bradley’s head snapped up, and finally, finally his blue gaze collided with Taylor’s. Dammit. Why did he have to be so beautiful? He was like a mischievous angel, all twinkling blue eyes, dimples, a sexy cleft in his chin, dark blond wavy hair . . .
“What?” he asked Nick distractedly, still looking at Taylor.
“Taylor here wants to share her original crown molding with someone.”
Bradley winced, and Taylor felt a little surge of gratitude toward Nick. He couldn’t have known it, but it was the perfect jab. She and Bradley were both into prewar architecture—had eaten up the broker’s description of all the building’s original elements.
Taylor should be sharing that crown molding with Bradley. And he damn well knew it.
His eyes met hers in silent misery—an apology that she wasn’t quite ready to accept. Heck, she wasn’t even ready to acknowledge it, because she had no intention of being dumped. Not by him, not by any man.
Taylor ignored the guilt written all over Bradley’s face as she held his gaze. “Yes, it seems I unexpectedly have a free bedroom and more rent than I can afford. If either of you knows anyone looking for a roommate . . .”
Bradley’s handsome face twisted regretfully, and he set his coffee aside, taking a step toward her, apparently forgetting—or not caring—that Nick was still in the room.
“Taylor. Damn it. I told you—”
“Actually, I do,” Nick said, interrupting.
Taylor forced her gaze away from Bradley’s pleading face toward Nick’s smug one. “You know someone who needs a roommate?”
“Yup.” He crossed his arms and watched her.
She made an impatient gesture with her hand. “Who? It can’t be one of your ex-girlfriends—I don’t want to inadvertently hear any gross details about you. And not one of your frat-boy guy friends—my living room isn’t cut out for Call of Duty.”
“Yeah, because that’s all I do all day.”
She rolled her eyes. “Okay, for real, who is it?”
His grin was slow, sly, and the very definition of trouble. “Me.”

Risking it All by T.J. Kline (Book 3 of The Hidden Falls series)

BLURB

Andrew McQuaid wasn’t always the local playboy. Once upon a time, he wanted to spend the rest of his life with one woman-Gia Mancuso. When he made a mistake and lost her, he decided he wasn’t meant to have a happy-ever-after. Now, Gia’s come back to town, with a baby in tow, and it might just mean a second chance at forever, if he can convince her that he never stopped loving her.

Ten years after leaving, Gia finds herself back in Hidden Falls. Between helping her ailing father save the family restaurant and taking care of the baby her sister left on her doorstep, she doesn’t have time for the man who once broke her heart. But Andrew is all grown-up now, in every single way. And the part of her that has always been his can’t quite say no to his tempting kisses.

Just when Gia begins to open her heart, a devastating secret emerges that threatens to destroy her family and any future with Andrew. Are they doomed to repeat the mistakes of their past or can Andrew convince Gia that she’s always been his one and only?

MY REVIEW:

Have you ever read the first book in a series and fell hard for a secondary character? I sure have, and it’s not the first in T.J Kline’s series that this happened to me. This time however I was very antsy for Andrew McQuaid’s book, he just stood out among the brothers. His banter, temper, and determination to stay a free bachelor just screamed ‘back story’. I can say I was not the least bit disappointed! T.J has a great insight into her characters and makes us fall hard for them.

Andrew had a love and lost her, the worst part was for ten years he had no idea why. He thought on it more than he wanted to but never came up with what he did wrong to drive the one woman for him away. When she comes back to town he is determined to find out once and for all!

Gia Mancuso has stayed away from her home town except for short visits. She has a good job that she has fought hard to get. Her family burned the need for respectability and family into her. So when she sister drops an unexpected problem on her, and her father is losing his fight with cancer, home is where she goes. She just hopes she can avoid Andrew.

There are secrets between these two that could not only destroy their second chance but also their families. I loved the complexity in this story, just when you think you have it figured out another curveball come at them. We get to spend more time with the McQuaid family and they are awesome! If there was a real family like this I would want to be friends with them. Gia is a very strong willed and organized woman and I just loved her for Andrew. He needed a woman that will keep him on his toes. Gia’s mother, now there is a piece of work! I wanted to shake her and make she see what she was doing to her daughters. Right to the end you still don’t know if she will change or not, I did like seeing the care and love Gia’s father showed his family. He refuses to back down but doesn’t need to use force. He is a kind, wise, and amazing man, he grabbed my heart and hung on.

All in all this book gave me everything I have come to expect from T.J. There is mystery, heart, trust broken, forgiveness, love, and so much more. You will not regret picking up this book! It can be read as a standalone but I recommend you read the first two books. It will make you love this family and town all the more! Go order your copy today, and set aside time to find out who Gia and Andrew were and are. Curl up in your favorite spot and enjoy!

EXCERPT:

The quiet purr of her car engine and the haunting hoot of an owl in the woods on the side of the highway lulled her. Most people would be afraid - on a long stretch of deserted highway, darkness surrounding her with a cacophony of night sounds - but this was home, where she'd grown up, where she'd once been broken and had left the pieces behind. Gia could feel her body relaxing into the leather seat and braced her arm against the bottom on Bella's car seat, trying desperately not to give in to the urge to sleep.

The soft crunch of gravel jerked her upright as headlights bathed the interior of her car in white light, blinding her. Reports of women being carjacked, kidnapped or murdered filled her mind and she hurried to snap the buckle of Bella's seat again. Dropping the bottle, she lunged forward, attempting to climb over the console into the driver's seat to get the hell away from whatever killer might be approaching her car.

It only took a few seconds to realize how big of a mistake she'd
made.

Gia had always been well-endowed but she'd never expected her curves to get her stuck partway between her front and back seats.
She wiggled, trying to twist sideways to make it easier to pull herself between the seats. Gripping the edge of the steering wheel, Gia used it for leverage, tucking one knee under her as she tried to force herself through. It was no use, she was hopelessly stuck, now unable to move forward or back. She was a miserable excuse for a guardian and prayed her stupidity wasn't about to end with her and Bella on tomorrow's news, murdered on the side of the highway, mere minutes from their destination.

She craned her neck to see the flash of red and blue lights washing through the back window of the car as a thin, white beam of light flashed through the window into her eyes. She held up a hand, trying to make out any of the features of what she prayed was really a cop, even if it meant someone would witness her embarrassing predicament. The back door opened and Gia heard a deep rumble of laughter.

"What brings you back to town, Gia?"

Gia closed her eyes, wishing she could crawl under her car. How was it possible that after nearly ten years of avoiding him, she was now caught in this position by the one man she never wanted to see again, the same one who'd broken her stupidly naive heart at eighteen.

"Andrew McQuaid," she muttered to herself. He shined the light on her rear end and irritation welled. "You think instead of oogling my ass you might actually help me?"

She felt the hands that had carried her to her first heights of ecstasy reach for either side of her hips. The same hands she swore would never touch her again after she found out about the bastard's cheating ways.

"Hey," she squealed, trying to squirm away from his touch, willing herself to ignore the way her heart leapt into her throat. "What the hell are you doing?"

"Exactly what you asked me to do. I'm helping you."

"Not like that?" She swung a hand at him, slapping her own butt in the process, but at least he let go of her.

"How, exactly, do you propose I help then?"

"I don't know. You're the cop."

Andrew laughed, still leaning into her car, bent over awkwardly behind her. "Honey, I really don't see any other way."

She glared at him over her shoulder. "Don't call me that."

"Fine." Andrew moved into the car, practically sitting in the back seat and slid one hand through an opening by her waist, in front of her bent knee with the other around her calf, managing to pull it out from under her. "There. I'm going to tip your right hip down but you're going to have to manage to twist your shoulders to fit…um…" He searched for a polite term he could use for her boobs. "The girls through," he finished with a chuckle.

Gia felt the rush of heat flood her face. "Let's just get this over with."

Andrew's hands closed on her hips again, practically cupping her right butt cheek in his palm. "Bend your right knee and I'm going to pull on three. One…two…three."

Gia managed to twist her body as Andrew pulled her backward and she slid through the space as if she'd never been stuck at all.

Andrew dropped into the seat, carrying her with him and Gia landed in his lap with one of his muscular forearms under her breasts, the other hand cupping her inner thigh, sending a blast of heat between her legs. It was the worst reaction she could have ever imagined having.

Until she realized that hard ridge beneath her rear wasn't his gun

About Melissa Schroeder:

From an early age, USA Today Bestselling author Melissa loved to read. First, it was the books her mother read to her including her two favorites, Winnie the Pooh and the Beatrix Potter books. She cut her preteen teeth on Trixie Belden and read and reviewed To Kill a Mockingbird in middle school. It wasn’t until she was in college that she tried to write her first stories, which were full of angst and pain, and really not that fun to read or write. After trying several different genres, she found romance in a Linda Howard book.

Since her first published book , Mel has had over 60 short stories, novellas, and novels published. She has written in genres ranging from historical to contemporary to futuristic and has worked with 8 publishers although she handles most of her publishing herself. With an overactive imagination and a slightly twisted mind, she enjoys reading dark and dangerous tales almost as much as writing them. When she’s not curled up on the sofa with her laptop, her latest story, a box of chocolates and a cup of tea (or a glass of wine, depending on the time of day), she can be found volunteering in the world of animal rescue. She shares her home with her husband and daughter, and a menagerie of rescued fur-babies
