Liddy maneuvered back to the bed to sit and strip. Staying off her foot for three days was certainly no picnic, but she was determined to heal completely. She’d always been a good patient, convinced the more strict one followed the rules, the faster one healed. If only she’d been that way in her relationships.
The click of the door pulled her from the memory.
“Liddy,” an unmistakably male voice called out. “I have ice.”
Luke!
She froze.
Shit! There she stood by the side of the bed, stark naked, and Luke had just entered the cabin.
She dropped the crutches and belly-flopped across the bed, yanking the covers over her. Her heart hammered in her chest like a racehorse.
“There you are. How come your leg isn’t up?”
She lifted her head to see him standing at her feet, hands on his hips. “Um, I wanted to take a bath.”
He glanced at the open bathroom door, where the water was still going. “How’s that working for ya’, since you’re still in bed?” His head tipped to the side and his eyebrows lifted. “There’s no slacking in rehab.”
Before she could respond, he whipped the covers off, exposing the backside of her completely naked body.
She shrieked.
“Time to . . . Oh, holy hell!”
“Luke!” She reached for the covers, but she wasn’t fast enough.
He pulled them away, dangling just out of her reach. “Oh, no you don’t. That has to be the most gorgeous ass I’ve ever seen in my life.”
“Luke! You asshole! Don’t you even knock?!”
He raised the sheet. When she grabbed it, he didn’t let go. Instead, he stepped forward, knelt one knee beside her thighs, and leaned down over her back until his lips were mere inches from her ear. “Knock? If you want, I’ll knock you screaming and panting into next week.”
