Hard Compromise by Samanthe Beck

Laurie Peterson assumes her impulsive one-night stand with sinfully sexy Sheriff Ethan Booker is the biggest surprise of the year...until her bakery burns down while she's basking in the afterglow. It looks like her dreams are up in smoke, but then Ethan proposes a deal too tempting to resist.
Ethan has no intention of settling for a one-night stand with Laurie. Nor does he want anything to do with the women his wealthy family wants him to meet. Not when he's waited ten years for his chance to make his move. His deal might have strings--and Laurie may not know the stakes--but nothing will stop this sexy cop from staking a real claim on her body and her heart.

                                                                         My Review:
Steamy, sexy, unpredictable, and with humor thrown into the mix you wont go wrong with this read. Samanthe never disappoints especially with this new series. Hard Compromise is book number two in the series, it grabs you right away and won’t let go until the last word in the book. Well not even then because I can’t wait for book three.
We meet Laurie Peterson in book one (Compromising Her Position), she is the best friend of Chelsea Wayne and owner of the bakery Baby Cakes. When reading book one I wanted to know more about Laurie, she seamed like a great friend and support for Chelsea, but also fun too. In the first chapter you get a taste of who Laurie is and why, also we get to meet Ethan Booker (YUM) who is charged to look after her. Laurie didn’t have an easy care free life, she has had to work hard for everything she has. This is a problem when she looks at Ethan “Booker” because he comes from a very wealthy family. She judges him on that and this leads to some fun/heated bickering between them.
Booker is the Sheriff in town and with this title he has earned through hard work and climbing the proverbial ladder gives him great pride in himself. He didn’t use his family influence or money to get where he is, in fact he has everything he has wanted out of life, well except the one women who has evaded him for ten years. Finally Booker says it’s time, he planes to take what he wants no matter what. Watching Laurie from a distance, not being able to touch her, taste her, have her be his is in the past. His New Year’s resolution is simple: Make Laurie want him so bad she realizes she can’t live without him. You have to love a determined man, and this book is full of sexy scenes between these too. But can Booker convince Laurie it’s more than lust between them? That they could shatter every rule she has or pre-conserved notion that happily ever after is only in fairy tales? You will have to read every word to find out! Curl up in your favorite spot and let’s get reading!

Blog Tour Spotlight: One Snowy Night by Jill Shalvis

                                                                        Blurb

New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis returns to Heartbreaker Bay with a fun and festive holiday novella!

It’s Christmas Eve and Rory Andrews is desperate to get home to the family she hasn’t seen in years. Problem is, her only ride to Lake Tahoe comes in the form of the annoyingly handsome Max Stranton, and his big, goofy, lovable dog Carl.

Hours stuck in a truck with the dead sexy Max sounds like a fate worse than death (not), but Rory’s out of options. She’s had a crush on Max since high school and she knows he’s attracted to her, too. But they have history… and Max is the only one who knows why it went south.

They’ve done a good job of ignoring their chemistry so far, but a long road trip in a massive blizzard might be just what they need to face their past… and one steamy, snowy night is all it takes to bring Max and Rory together at last.

MY REVIEW:
Rory is a spunky and fun addition to Willa’s book (The Trouble with Mistletoe), you can see something between her and Max but not sure what. I will not be telling you so don’t be looking for spoilers in my reviews. I will say Max and Rory are not strangers and they have a history, the problem is Rory has no idea why Max hates her. There is a chemistry anyone can see and one they both try to fight. In this book Rory has to face her past and make amends with her family, she just needs to get home first. Packed up and ready to go she realizes too late that her ride is Max. In the end I think it was Carl that got her to go on the trip, he is her favorite dog that comes into the grooming shop. Carl loves to give cuddles and kisses and he seems to know when Rory needs them most. I love the dog banter and jokes in this book. I have dogs and the things Carl does in the chapters really are very common and fun. There is a great deal of tension as you would expect when two stubborn people are put in a tight space for hours at a time. The time gets stretched even longer when the snow begins to fall so hard driving comes to a crawl. For a novella I was very happy at the amount of detail and heat found on the pages. Sometimes novella’s can seemed rushed and leave you wanting more. This does leave you wanting more but not in a bad way. We will see more I am sure in the coming books. Make sure you curl up with some hot chocolate with marshmallows, a cozy blanket and buy this book as soon as you can. Keep reading, laughing and traveling all from your comfort spot.

                                                                            Excerpt:
Christmas Eve had the nerve to show up just like it did every year: way too quickly and with ridiculous fanfare.
The nerve.
Rory Andrews stood in the courtyard of the Pacific Pier Building in San Francisco, surrounded by sparkly holiday lights and enough garlands to give the place its own ozone, and told herself things could be worse.
She just wasn’t sure how.
It was the unknown, she decided. Because this year, unlike the past six, she’d be spending Christmas with her family, a thought that caused a swarm of butterflies to take flight in her belly.
Not an uncommon feeling since she’d turned twenty-three a few months back and decided it was time to become a person she could be proud of if it killed her. And given the guy leaning against one of the lamp poles clearly waiting for her, arms crossed, frown in place, it just might.
Max Stranton. At his side sat Carl, his huge, eternally hungry, adorable Doberman.
“No,” she said, not to Carl but to Carl’s owner. Who was not lovable. “No way.”
As always when their gazes locked, Max’s was a disconcerting mix of heat and . . . something else that she couldn’t quite figure out, as he was good at hiding when he wanted to be. She never quite knew how to take the heat because it seemed reluctant. He was attracted to her but didn’t want to be.
Ditto. He made her knees wobble. And also a couple of other inner reactions that shouldn’t be happening in public.
“Merry Christmas to you too, Rory,” he said, and damn. It wasn’t just his eyes. His voice was rough and sexy, and for that matter, so was the rest of him.
He worked for an investigations and security firm in the building. Basically he and the rest of his team were fixers and finders for hire. To say that Max was good at his job was an understatement. He stood there looking like sex on a stick with a duffle bag slung over a broad shoulder, his dark hair two weeks past needing a cut, and the icy wind of an incoming storm plastering his clothes to a body that could be registered as a lethal weapon.
“What are you doing here?” she asked calmly even if her heart was anything but, pounding all the way up to her throat and ears because she knew. She knew exactly why he was here. “I don’t need a ride home.”
A flash of wry humor slid in with all that sizzling heat. “Because you’d rather take two buses and a train than get into my truck with me?” he asked.
Well yes, actually.

Hidden Hollywood by Kylie Gilmore (Book 1 of A Happy Ending Book Club series)

Hidden Hollywood (Happy Endings Book Club, Book 1) by [Gilmore, Kylie]

About:
She’s on top…
When superstar actress Claire Jordan researched her role for the Fierce Trilogy movies, she never expected the bond she feels with the author and her romance book club aka The Happy Endings Book Club. Soon Claire finds herself confessing her secret longing for a regular guy—no more egocentric wealthy players—and the book club is all too ready to help. In disguise as a regular girl, she’s all set for a date with book-club-approved Josh Campbell.

He’s on top…
Billionaire tech CEO Jake Campbell is weary of gold-digging women, especially the glamorous superficial types. So when his identical twin Josh calls in a favor asking Jake to step in as him on a date, Jake figures one of Josh’s cute girl-next-door types might be just what he needs. One night of passion with the sweet girl-next-door leaves Jake wanting more, except she seems to have vanished.

Sometimes a Happy Ending is just the beginning.

MY REVIEW:

Hidden Hollywood (Happy Endings Book Club, Book 1) by [Gilmore, Kylie]
Discovering new authors is a really big joy for me and sometimes it’s scary. It makes me wonder, am I going to like this book? Will the characters be good, deep, and relatable? Sometimes I even put off reading a book that sounds great because I don’t know the author. I am getting over this flaw though because when this book was delivered to my kindle account, I read it that night. That’s right I almost finished the book the same night, but when it became one in the morning and I had to be up at six, well I forced myself to go to sleep. Yes it took forcing! So, what made this so good? Let me tell you.
First we have a powerful woman who has made her life what she has wanted her whole life. She is successful, rich, famous, and genuinely liked. She may be rich and famous but she stayed true to who she was and is, her true self. She doesn’t need a man to ‘take care of her’, she would like one to love her for who she is, not her celebrity status.  Claire Jordan wants a small town, descent guy to treat her as though she was a normal woman. Her book club loves the idea and decides to make her idea a reality.
Second character is a alpha male twin, that knows what he wants and doesn’t stop until it’s his. He is funny, easy going, rich from using his brain, so yep he is also very smart. Jake Campbell’s twin brother is a hometown good normal guy that Claire’s book club thinks she will like. Men may grow up but these two never learn. They decide to switch places and Jake goes out with Claire, not knowing who she really is. The chemistry is there right away, sizzling even. They are good at talking and have a great time together. The problem is they are both lying about their true identity. What is supposed to be one date and done, becomes a mess of lies, messages getting crossed, paparazzi sightings, and a lot more.

Hidden Hollywood was a great read, full of the things I love. Laughter, friendship, secrets, steamy love scenes, and two strong willed people. What happens to these two will make you laugh, get you mad, and make you wonder what could possibly happen next! The book is out and ready for you to buy, so go for it! Keep reading, laughing, and traveling from your comfort spot.

The Trouble with Mistletoe by Jill Shalvis

ABOUT:
If she has her way . . .
Willa Davis is wrangling puppies when Keane Winters stalks into her pet shop with frustration in his chocolate-brown eyes and a pink bedazzled cat carrier in his hand. He needs a kitty sitter, stat. But the last thing Willa needs is to rescue a guy who doesn’t even remember her . . .
He’ll get nothing but coal in his stocking.
Saddled with his great-aunt’s Feline from Hell, Keane is desperate to leave her in someone else’s capable hands. But in spite of the fact that he’s sure he’s never seen the drop-dead-gorgeous pet shop owner before, she seems to be mad at him . . .
Unless he tempers “naughty” with a special kind of nice . . .
Willa can’t deny that Keane’s changed since high school: he’s less arrogant, for one thing—but can she trust him not to break her heart again? It’s time to throw a coin in the fountain, make a Christmas wish—and let the mistletoe do its work . . .

                                                                                     MY REVIEW:
As promised I read and am reviewing book two of the A Heartbreaker Bay series and was not disappointed. We meet Willa in book one and she is the biggest cheerleader for love and happy endings. I was surprised to see that she didn’t believe in what she spouted, well at least when it came to her own love life that is. Will was not given anything in life, she had to work hard for her success and it has paid off. She runs a dog grooming shop that does more than just grooming. It was fun to hear about the weddings for her client’s pets, handmade bedazzled collars, and the girls she felt needed the help she never had. Reading about Willa made me wish she was my friend too. She has a heart of gold but is scared to let it go to anyone.
Keane and Willa went to high school together and he left a big impression on her, too bad he can’t remember her at all… If the way she is treating him is any indication he knows he must have done something bad. Keane was a nice surprise; he is smart, hot, and ready to take on the world. As you read about him you find he also has a problem, he thinks he can’t love or really feel much. One thing I like about Jill’s books is that she writes about how our childhood affects us even beyond what we think. In the case of Willa and Keane, it’s a great deal. They need to get their heads out of the past and look at what is in front of them. They both have so much trouble with this you wonder right to the end if they even can. First one is on board then the other but never at the same time. There is a great deal of humor and fun in this book. I laughed a great deal at the pet jokes, the antics of Willa’s friends and then there’s the ‘awww’ factor. Willa is loved by her friends so much that it shows in everything they do and say to her. This book will not be a disappointment so get your copy today! And look for my review on One Snowy Night Jill’s novella that comes next in the series (book 2.5). Keep reading, laughing and traveling all from your comfort spot.

Sweet Little Lies by Jill Shalvis

Sweet Little Lies: A Heartbreaker Bay Novel by [Shalvis, Jill]

My Review:
Thanks to a friends recommendation I read my first Jill Shalvis book and am hooked. I started this series and couldn’t put it down, I am reading the second book now and will write a review later. This is about Pru and Finn and how they find each other. While Finn believes it is coincidence, fate or dumb luck that he was able to look at the gorgeous Pru, she knows different. She wanted to meet him, you find out why throughout the book so I’m not going to ruin it for you.

Pru is smart, beautiful, confident, and a ship tour captain, on the outside she seems very put together and ready to take on anything. The problem is she is alone, mostly. She has a select few people that truly know who she is inside, her dog Thor and her ex-boyfriends now best friend Jake. When she moves into her new apartment and starts making friends she’s surprised at how much More her life is. Finn is a part of this group too and that brings them closer than was ever the plan. Really though how do you resist a sexy Pub owner that will take off his shirt at a moments notice?
Finn lives and breaths work, he has to keep the Pub going. His younger brother will be happy he put all the work in someday. That’s what he tells himself, since it has been his sole responsibility to raise him since Sean(brother) was fourteen. They are all each other has, besides Finn’s close group of friends. Then he starts getting close to the sexy new member of the group, Pru. He sees she has walls and wants to help her break them. Finn wants to be the one person she tells her secrets too, the one she trusts. The problem is, one of her secrets is so horrible, Pru knows the moment Finn finds out he will be gone.
Secrets, white lies, omitting the truth, no matter what you call it, it will be her downfall. If she tells Finn will he stay or will he do as she expects? Will Finn share the one thing he too has been hiding? To find out you MUST read!

Mixing Temptation By Sara Jane Stone

Blurb:
After a year spent living in hiding—with no end in sight—Caroline Andrews wants to reclaim her life. But the lingering trauma from her days serving with the marines leaves her afraid to trust the tempting logger who delivers friendship and the promise of something more.

Following an accident that nearly robbed him of his hopes for the future, Josh Summers believes life has given him a second chance. He wants to settle down with the woman who stole his attention and his heart. And he’s willing to wait until she’s ready to be more than “just friends.” When fear of discovery leaves Caroline pretending to be his date, Josh tempts her to try the real thing—a relationship built on trust, not lies.
But then the past threatens and Caroline must risk everything—including her freedom—to bury her demons before she can take a chance on happy-ever-after.

MY Review:

This is the book we SJS fans have been waiting for! Loved characters from two separate series come together to see if they can find love. We meet Josh Summers in Sara’s Independence Falls series, I don’t know about you but his sense of humor grabbed me right off. Josh is no stranger to having people disappoint him and having life kick you in the teeth. He had a traumatic injury that made him realize what was important in life, his life of one fling after another just weren’t enough anymore.
Caroline Andrews is introduced to us in Serving Trouble (book 1 in the Second Shot series). She is scared, hurt and yet still a kick butt Marine ready to fight if needed. Luckily for her she runs into Josh who tells her Marine buddy Noah she is in town and looking for him. You will have to read the series to really get a sense of who Caroline is and trust me it is worth it. Caroline has things in her past that make it very hard to trust anyone let alone men. She avoids people at all costs, but one man just wont leave her alone.
After Josh’s ordeal he learned to bake, this skill comes in handy when he decides to get to know Caroline better. It takes him a long time, longer than he has ever perused a women but he feels she’s worth it. Josh never pushes Caroline and this made me respect him even more. He takes his time, giving her a friend yet making sure she knows he’s interested in more, when she’s ready. After their second date however what should be an easy fun start to a relationship is anything but. Caroline see’s a need to stop dwelling in her past but in order to do that she thinks she needs to face it head on. She also meets a women who needs her help, most men would give up, not Josh, he offers to help anyway he can. This leads us on a trip of deep contemplation, police, talks of hot tubs, laughter, and more conflicting emotions than either of them thought possible.
This book was extremely well written and researched, Sara brought a problem still to this day swept under the rug out in the open. She did this with special care and thought to how people who had suffered the same would feel when reading it. I’m highly impressed with the in depth and no holding back she took in the effort to share who Caroline was before and after the event. Showing that though horrible things happen to us, we all can heal.  You will love this book from beginning to end!

Change of Heart by T.J. Kline

MY Review:

Gage is back and with his own story, who else is excited about this! When we first meet Gage we find out he is a tech genius who helps his older brother find a way to heal from his PTSD. I don’t know about you but I fell for him right away, T.J. has definitely changed the “geek” image in this series. In Hearts Desire she gave us Nathan a finical analyst that made our mouths drop open when described. Now we have a sexy, buff, kind, did I mention sexy guy named Gage. He has his own company that has been making a ton of money until there is a flaw in one system. Needing to get away to find some perspective Gage heads to Heart Fire Ranch. He wants to spend time with his brother and new niece, spend time in the piece and quiet, away from the media. However, it is not all he planed when he meets Leah.

Leah is the new therapist for Heart Fire Ranch and is very excited to stat the new chapter in her life. She hopes it is better than her past jobs and her past hurts. Leah has the kind of past that she would like to leave there. She believes if she doesn’t think about it and keeps looking forward it can’t hurt her anymore. This of course doesn’t work when she meets Gage on the side of the road when her car breaks down. Gage is taken with what he sees right away, loving the curves, the body, and makes a comment on… Her car. Leah thinks his comment is about her body and takes instant offence, setting the two at odds from the start.

Gage can’t figure out what it is about Leah but something won’t let him leave her alone. He tries to befriend her and get flack from Jessie. The easiest thing for him would be to just stay away, it’s what Leah says she want and what Jessie his bossy sister in law wants. Unfortunately, he just can’t and soon discovers why. Leah is like no women he has ever met, she intrigues him. So he keeps helping, keeps being nice. Leah tries to fight the desire Gage brings out in her, she has never felt it before and has avoided men for the past ten years. Love was a myth, happily ever after was for kids, and Leah was never going to feel anything romantic with Gage. This was her mantra.

So, you have two stubborn, head strong, determined characters who desire each other but refuse to give in. As you can tell this book ROCKS! I fell in love with Gage and Leah almost as much as Baily and Chase. I know you will too, so pre-order/buy your copy… NOW!
