MY REVIEW:

       This is the first SiFi cyborg book I have ever read. Truth be told when I first read the description I laughed and said, “nope, not for me.” The second time I read the description I was intrigued and curious. Curiosity won, and I started reading last night at 11:30, was so into the characters and setting I kept reading until 4 am. I was laughing at myself because here was a book I didn’t think I would ever be interested in and I couldn’t put it down. Reading off and on today until finally finishing about ten minutes ago.
      Cynthia Sax did it to me again, her writing style sucked me in and I am glued to this new series. There are secrets, learning barriers, passion, and overcoming unimaginable odds. Rage is a Cyborg who hates all humans, doesn’t trust then and wants to kill every last one. Joan is a human hell bent on helping the Cyborgs to repay a debt, she is thrilled to finally receive an assignment but scared when she realizes why. As a women doing a ‘mans’ job everyone expects her to be killed including her when she learns her predecessor was killed brutally by her new Cyborg. Never one to give up she reaches inside herself to find the strength to prove everyone wrong. Rage learns that same lesson when he finds himself drawn to his new human; she consumes his thoughts and desires. It’s just too bad his plan to escape and kill them (humans) all is already in motions. What happens in this book will keep you reading each page and chapter until the end.
        Apparently someone told her this book was not “marketable” but she didn’t listen and self-published it and there are more to come. Cynthia has proven that no matter what others tell you, you need to follow your gut and pursue your goals. It worked in this case and I for one am very glad to have met Rage and Joan. Thank you for inviting me into the cyborg family and I can’t wait to read more, especially Crash and Gap’s stories.

My Review:

It’s all over folks, I laughed, cried, yelled, and laughed some more. I have read some book series that ended after you become hooked on the people and this one was done beautifully. Others have left you wanting more and I have been in a bad mood or sad all day. On the completion of this series, however I just sighed. Everything I wanted was there; Bee gets what she needs and wants. Both men are happy, Bee’s friends and mother are still standing by her side. What more could you want? Well, I still wouldn’t mind finding a guy like Hawke, but if I start to miss him I guess I will have to read the books again. I think the best part about this series is that you get to see the growth of all the people. Bee learns to trust and find value in herself. Cindy makes tough choices even she didn’t know she could, choosing friendship, love and the things that have real value in life. Nicolas learns how to be more than just a billionaire a**Hole and that there are ways to make a connection with others that is worth the time and pain that might come. Bee’s mom gets a second chance at happiness and Hawke, well he grows more determined and patient with every day. These are the kind of books I like, because they give us something real! Great job Cynthia and thank you so much for letting me be a part of this journey with you and your friends.

Nicolas stands in the hallway, a sheepish smile on his beautiful face, and my small burst of joy dissipates, replaced by the dreaded malaise. He’s handsome, the lights shining on his black wavy hair, tanned skin, dark eyes. He’s immaculately dressed in a gray suit, white shirt, pink tie. He’s carrying ice cream, a small tub of Heavenly Hash cradled in his perfectly manicured fingers.

But he’s not Hawke. He’s not the man I love, the only person I want to see.

“Don’t look at me like that, Bee.” Nicolas pushes his way into the condo. “I had that situation with the New York build last night. There will be fancy events in the future.” He holds up the tub. “I brought ice cream.”

I summon a smile. “You forgot about me.” I take the ice cream from the dashing billionaire. “What do those articles I sent you say about forgetting friends?”

Nicolas grimaces. “You knew I was a bad friend.” He walks with me to the kitchen, smelling of expensive cologne and wealth.

“You’re not a bad friend.” I set two bowls and two spoons on the counter. “You’re a terrible friend.” I open the tub of ice cream.

The real estate developer settles his long lean body on a bar stool and dips a spoon in the container. “You’re not giving up on me, are you?” The lines carved between his perfect eyebrows belie his casual tone.

“I’d never give up on you.” I knock his sucked-clean spoon away and huddle over the tub, protecting the ice cream from impatient-billionaire-induced contamination. “Hawke doesn’t love me,” I blurt, needing to voice this, to share this with someone.

“He said that?” Nicolas steals a spoonful of ice cream from the bowl I’m filling.

“No.” I frown, scooping as fast as I can. “But he’s never said he loves me, either.” I push Nicolas’s bowl toward him.

His eyes sparkle. “I’ve never said I love ice cream.” He shovels the sweet treat into his mouth with a boyish glee. “But I do. Very much.” His lips curl upward. “The name of this flavor is perfect. It is heavenly.”

“Hawke doesn’t love me,” I repeat stubbornly, dishing out a smaller portion for myself.

“A good friend would agree with you.” Nicolas’s head is bent over his ice cream.

“You’re not a good friend.” I place the tub in the freezer compartment of the fridge. “What would you do?”

“I’d tell you that neither of you are acting rationally, that if craziness is a sign of love, Hawke has it much worse than you.” Nicolas licks his spoon. “He guards you like you’re the last piece of prime real estate on the planet. I’m taking my life into my hands by simply eating ice cream with you.”

I climb onto the bar stool beside him, his observations about Hawke’s protectiveness appeasing me, banishing some of my melancholy. “He cares about me.”

“No, he cares about his team.” The billionaire’s lips flatten grimly. “Disregarding all of my advice about maintaining his distance.” Nicolas believes remaining aloof from his employees makes painful staffing decisions less traumatic. “What Hawke feels for you is in an entirely different category.”

“It isn’t love.” Or is it?

MY REVIEW:

I saved tis one(even though it drove me bonkers) until I had the last one to read soon after. Cynthia has done something here that for me is amazing. I have never read a book that was split into 12 parts and have it not get old. Series books are on different people so that keeps you reading but this series in all about three main characters. Since the start I have needed to know who Friendly was though I had my suspicions, had to know if Bee was going to follow her head or her heart. Book number 11 gets us closer to the last instalment, which means there is little mystery left. Or so you think. Cynthia has one more left, Bee’s man is acting odd, her mom keeps calling with vague questions, and her man has yet to TELL her he loves her. I’m pretty sure I know how this will end but an still hooked to find out. This is why Cynthia Sax is a great writer, she keeps us thinking, asking questions, and I for one a sad to see this series end… Yet also excited to find out how Cynthia brings it all to a satisfying close.

“We’ll greet our new cat together,” Hawke assures me. The elevator doors open and we exit, our fingers linked together. “But after Gisele’s settled, I have to leave.” He brushes his shoulder against mine. “I’m personally supervising the venue’s preliminary security scan.”

“Do you usually supervise that?” I slow my pace to a crawl, wishing to spend more time with him.

“No.” Hawke matches my stride, his gait smooth and silent. “Normally, I assign the task to my team.”

But he isn’t tonight. I don’t delude myself that this personal attention is because of me. “There will be a lot of media at the event.”

Hawke’s lips flatten. “The media is the number one reason why our clients need security. If a hostile’s sole goal is to eliminate an individual, he’d avoid an event like this ball. He’d approach his target when she’s out of the spotlight and alone, minimizing casualties and the possibility of being apprehended.”

I consider his words. “I don’t have to worry about that type of hostile.” No one would specifically target me. I’m not that important. “That’s why I was safe in the French restaurant.”

“You were safer in the restaurant,” Hawke corrects. “You’re never completely safe.” He touches the barbed wire tattoo on his arm, a reminder of how random violence can be. “The media and an event like tonight’s ball attract a different type of hostile. They wish to make a statement. They do this by taking out their target and as many bystanders as possible, ensuring coverage of their cause.”

This is the scary world he lives in. I shiver. “That doesn’t happen very often.” I would have seen reports on the Internet, on TV.

“But it does happen.” My military man waves his passcard over our condo’s sensor. “You’ll obey my team tonight, Belinda.” He opens the door. “If they say move, you move.”

“I’ll follow orders.” I step over the threshold. There’s a speck of gravel on my previously cleaned floor. I frown. That shouldn’t be there. I cleaned the condo before I left. No one has entered it since then.

Or have they? I freeze, my body temperature dropping. “Hawke?” I whisper.

“Yes, love?” He moves forward and the door shuts behind him.

I extend my arms, preventing my big man from passing me. “Back into the hallway and call your team.” I keep my voice soft and calm, suppressing the terror swirling inside me. “Someone entered our condo while we were gone.”

I fill a pitcher with ice water and start when Mack grabs my wrist. “We should leave,” he informs me, his forehead furrowed. “I don’t like the looks of those men.” He nods toward nine guys huddled around two tables, cameras and other recording equipment hanging around their necks.

I stiffen. They must be paparazzi, taking a break from stalking me.

My gut says to run, to save myself. I glance at the dozens of waiting customers and then at Yelena, my solitary sister in the service trenches. My sense of honor won’t allow this option. “I can’t abandon the other waitress.”

Mack’s eyes gleam with respect. “Then avoid those tables. This could go FUBAR quickly.”

“Avoiding those tables will look too suspicious.” I pull away from him. “They won’t recognize me. No one notices the busboy.”

“They notice when the busboy looks like you,” Mack mumbles. “I’m calling this in.” He presses his right index finger against his phone’s screen and raises the device to his ear.

So much for not distracting Hawke. My lips twist. I hurry from table to table, topping customers’ glasses up, quieting some loud complainers, and earning a thankful smile from Yelena.

I scurry around a tall skinny man with bloodshot eyes. He plays with his bill, his fingers trembling, his gaze flicking between Yelena, me, and the door. I recognize his look of desperation, having seen it in hitchhikers’ faces as they stop at the diner. He plans to dine and dash, running away without paying for his meal.

Yelena or I will be blamed, our wages docked. That can’t happen. I need every dollar.

Seeking to dissuade the fraudster, I move between him and the exit. Unfortunately, this places me closer to the paparazzi’s tables.

“Fill me up, baby doll.” A husky man with a thick beard holds out his empty glass. A camera with a huge lens is set on the table beside him. “I’m thirsty for everything you’ve got.” He waggles his untamed eyebrows.

Having already heard every cheesy line ever given to a female waitress, I fix a smile on my face and pour water into Romeo’s glass.

He leans closer to me, the scent of old perspiration surrounding him. “You smell delicious.” Romeo licks his lips. “What perfume are you wearing?”

“Eau de french fry.” I edge away from him and fill his friend’s glass.

“Hey, don’t run away.” Romeo grabs my hand and pulls me backward. “If you give me some love, I’ll make you famous.” He touches his camera.

Mack stands, looming large and menacing near the counter. I shake my head and twist away from the overzealous customer, not wishing Hawke’s friend to interfere.

“I don’t want to be famous.” As I say this, I realize it’s the truth. I desire to be seen, to be watched, but I don’t want my identity to be known. The thought of passersby on the street recognizing me, confronting me, knowing my perverted secrets, horrifies me.

“Everyone wants to be famous.” Romeo reaches for me again.

My Review:

For the most part, I loved this book; there were parts that frustrated me though. Bee finally chose her man but her insecurities are getting hard to handle for me as a reader. The man she loves does love her and all that makes Bee, well her. This is something I really admire; it takes a strong man to be so sure of himself and his feelings that nothing will derail him from what he wants. Bee needs to see this and I know she will. She will eventually heal and learn to trust and this will strengthen the relationship. For now, I want to ring her neck, lol. For those biting your nails waiting for some BIG secrets to be told well here you go… Friendly is…. HA you need to read to find out ;-)

A new family member is also added in this addition that I found a surprise and well worth the wait. Cynthia’s characters really are growing and developing as this series continues. Bee’s mom has met someone and learning to trust again right along with her daughter. Though Bee seams more reserved still her mom is ready for the leap. I was glad to read this because I was hoping for good things to happen to such a strong amazing single mom (not that I am bias or anything ;-) ) Cynthia Sax has not disappointed bringing in the heart wrenching story and the steamy love seans a great blend and I will let you all know how # 11 is as soon as I get done reading it J
