Mr. Misunderstood by Sara Jane Stone

About:

Rule #1: Maintain Control.
You think you know me. The cars, the penthouse, the reputation for delivering women to that “Oh, yes, Gavin” moment… Yeah, I’m the bad boy billionaire who drives your fantasies.
But I’ve traveled a long road to get here. And I played by the rules—the ones I wrote to guarantee I didn’t return to whom I was before.
Until now. The pictures, the story—it’s my past coming back to haunt me. I’ve lost control. And to get it back, I need to change the story.
So I asked my best friend and neighbor for help. Kayla agreed—if I support her growing pack of four-legged misfits.
My life is under control again.
Only I’m falling for my best friend. Now, my New York City apartment is full of rescued pups, my country retreat looks more like an animal sanctuary, and Kayla’s guarding her heart.
And I’m running out of time to prove the girl next door belongs with the billionaire.

MY REVIEW:

Sara has done it once again! This book is full of love, challenge, friendship, and fluffy animals! Sara has incorporated her amazing writing ability and her love of animals to create something spectacular. You will not be disappointed when you read about Gavin who thinks he has everything, is in complete control of his life, and is a billionaire. One minute he thinks he is about to get laid the next his whole life explodes out of control. In the process of trying to regain ‘normal’ he enlists the help of the one person he can always count on, his best friend Kayla. Kayla agrees to Gavin’s crazy plan to pretend to be a couple but not with out stipulations. She loves her dogs and cats and won’t go live in his penthouse without them. All seams to go well until those pesky things called feeling start to arise.
Gavin and Kayla are amazing in this book and I hated reading the last bit. I wanted to go back and read it again to stay with these two. Their story is a heartwarming store about finding a way to overcome past demons and grabbing hold of the future you want! Curl up in your reading spot and enjoy this amazing book!

Fun Facts About Sara Jane

Sara Jane discovered romance novels at work.
Sara Jane started her career in the marketing department at one of the big New York City publishers. One day, a manager asked her to prepare a mailing to booksellers. Sara Jane spent hours stuffing envelopes with chocolate and advance reading copies of Sabrina Jeffries’ upcoming release. She took one of the extra copies home and stayed up until most of the night reading. In the morning, she went to the office and asked for more romance novels. She has been reading them ever since!
Sara Jane named her daughter after a character in Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ Match Me If You Can.
While pregnant with her first child, Sara Jane was too nauseous to read. She turned to audio books and found Match Me If You Can at the library. After hearing the narrator say the heroine’s name over and over, Sara Jane fell in love with it. She announced to her husband they were naming the baby Annabelle. Her first child was a boy, so they decided to wait for baby #2 to use the name.
Sara Jane signed with her agent and found out she was pregnant on the same day.
When her husband came home from work, she announced the good news: “I have an agent!  Oh and we’re have a baby, so no champagne.”

Mixing Temptation By Sara Jane Stone

Blurb:
After a year spent living in hiding—with no end in sight—Caroline Andrews wants to reclaim her life. But the lingering trauma from her days serving with the marines leaves her afraid to trust the tempting logger who delivers friendship and the promise of something more.

Following an accident that nearly robbed him of his hopes for the future, Josh Summers believes life has given him a second chance. He wants to settle down with the woman who stole his attention and his heart. And he’s willing to wait until she’s ready to be more than “just friends.” When fear of discovery leaves Caroline pretending to be his date, Josh tempts her to try the real thing—a relationship built on trust, not lies.
But then the past threatens and Caroline must risk everything—including her freedom—to bury her demons before she can take a chance on happy-ever-after.

MY Review:

This is the book we SJS fans have been waiting for! Loved characters from two separate series come together to see if they can find love. We meet Josh Summers in Sara’s Independence Falls series, I don’t know about you but his sense of humor grabbed me right off. Josh is no stranger to having people disappoint him and having life kick you in the teeth. He had a traumatic injury that made him realize what was important in life, his life of one fling after another just weren’t enough anymore.
Caroline Andrews is introduced to us in Serving Trouble (book 1 in the Second Shot series). She is scared, hurt and yet still a kick butt Marine ready to fight if needed. Luckily for her she runs into Josh who tells her Marine buddy Noah she is in town and looking for him. You will have to read the series to really get a sense of who Caroline is and trust me it is worth it. Caroline has things in her past that make it very hard to trust anyone let alone men. She avoids people at all costs, but one man just wont leave her alone.
After Josh’s ordeal he learned to bake, this skill comes in handy when he decides to get to know Caroline better. It takes him a long time, longer than he has ever perused a women but he feels she’s worth it. Josh never pushes Caroline and this made me respect him even more. He takes his time, giving her a friend yet making sure she knows he’s interested in more, when she’s ready. After their second date however what should be an easy fun start to a relationship is anything but. Caroline see’s a need to stop dwelling in her past but in order to do that she thinks she needs to face it head on. She also meets a women who needs her help, most men would give up, not Josh, he offers to help anyway he can. This leads us on a trip of deep contemplation, police, talks of hot tubs, laughter, and more conflicting emotions than either of them thought possible.
This book was extremely well written and researched, Sara brought a problem still to this day swept under the rug out in the open. She did this with special care and thought to how people who had suffered the same would feel when reading it. I’m highly impressed with the in depth and no holding back she took in the effort to share who Caroline was before and after the event. Showing that though horrible things happen to us, we all can heal.  You will love this book from beginning to end!

Second Shot: Serving Trouble by Sara Jane Stone

Noah… Oh ya, we meet him in Lena and Chads story (Hero by Night) and I begged Sara to write more about him. I could tell he had a good story and I was right! Noah had a forbidden relationship before joining the Marines. To find out more about that story read Sara’s Running Wild (picture below), this review is about what happens five years later…

Noah is home to help run his father’s bar that he is trying to rebrand and make more successful. Between the bar, helping at the gun range and taking care of his father Noah has been able to keep from thinking of his past mistakes. At least some of the time. He was thought of as the hometown hero, which didn’t change when he came home a “war hero”, it’s something he used to pride in himself, not anymore. He tries to come across as a sullen jerk that doesn’t care anymore, until none other than Josie Fairmore, the one women he has never forgotten shows up asking for help.

Josie wanted nothing more than to leave the small town she grew up in. The town that called her wild and thought she would never amount to anything. It kills her inside to have to ask for help when she is forced to move home. Let alone ask Noah, the man that took her heart and smashed it. Noah had always told her that if she needed anything she could ask him, so swallowing her pride and the past hurt, she does ask.

Noah refuses at first not wanting the distraction or temptation of having Jose with-in his grasp yet unable to take her for his own. Jose’s brother would come back from overseas and kick his sorry butt for one and the other reason was that Noah didn’t think he was good enough for her anymore. He was too broken, he was no ones hero. Jose being a strong-willed woman doesn’t let him turn her away. I think the mention of her working at the topless bar might have had something to do with it too ;-). Noah didn’t want anyone seeing her like that, well other than him that is. Within the story you get to see the pain both have endured. The past five years wasn’t easy for either of them, the education Jose received does make her a hero in the town though. What kind of hero, lol you will have to read to find out. Will these two be able to forgive and heal, or will they keep making the same mistakes. That is what I kept thinking, but then Sara throws in a twist, someone else comes for Noah’s help. Another woman, which causes more trouble than Noah and Jose think they can handle. Noah is getting threatened, bullets and flying and the people he has left are counting on him. Noah doesn’t know how he can save himself let alone anyone else. Get you copy today to find out what other surprises are thrown Noah’s way…

My Review:

A new series, characters to get to know with the same AMAZING writing I have come to expect from Sara. This is the story of a woman that feels as though she is worth nothing, and for just one weekend wants to be someone else. We all feel like this at some point in our lives, or at least I have. Lucia wants to be bold, sexy, to feel wanted and desired by a man. She comes up with a plan, makes a list of what she wants, but is nowhere near ready for what she gets. Navy Seal Cade Daniels was sent to protect Lucia from herself and the crazy plan she has come up with. Home on leave he doesn’t mind taking a little time out to help his best friend when asked, he minds even less after he sees who he needs to protect! Cade tries his hardest to keep the “keep your hands off” promise he made to his best friend but soon finds it is an impossibility with Lucia. She is the first women to ever make him want more than being a SEAL, more than his life as a confirmed bachelor. Lucia makes it clear from the start they only have one weekend together, after one night she starts to wonder if her plan was as thought out as she thought… How can these two keep their promises to themselves and each other when the heart get involved?

Sara Jane Stone wrote a fun, sexy book with many heart felt situations. I like that even with the lack of confidence in herself (for reasons you will learn) she still pushes herself out of her comfort zone. Making sure, she does what she wants not what people expect from her. This is a story with layers that you look forward to uncovering. Why does Lucia want to be someone else? Why is Cade so against being in a relationship? What molded them into the people they are? One of my favorites though, can they find a way to stop being stubborn and fighting the truth to be together? All are revealed and more, this book was given to me as an ARC copy from the Author. I will always give HONEST reviews and I know you will love this book. It is available for pre-order now and goes on sale 6/30/15!

Excerpt:
“Don’t tell me you came for the artwork,” a deep, masculine voice said from behind her. She closed her eyes briefly, sucking in a sharp breath at the sound that seemingly had a direct line to the parts of her body craving male attention.
Wow, that was fast. Good job, dress.
“What else would I come for?” she replied without turning to face him.
“I don’t know about you, but my eye’s been on a table filled with chocolate five feet away,” the mystery man said.
Chocolate. She opened her eyes. Melt-in-your-mouth sugary goodness came a close second to orgasms on her list of wants.
“What kind of chocolate?” She kept her gaze fixed on the bold red brushstrokes running through the center of the first painting.
He chuckled. “I didn’t look too closely. Does it matter?”
“The details are always important.” Like if the man behind her filled out his suit with a body that promised to make her dreams for tonight a reality. “Milk chocolate tastes different from dark. Do they have fillings that melt in your mouth or ones that explode with flavor?”
She felt him move closer. His heat merging with hers. Without the mask, she might have caught a glimpse of him from the corner of her eye, enough to know if the man matched the panty-melting voice.
“You like things that explode in your mouth?” he said, the words a low growl in her ear.
“Yes.” This man could read the phone book and leave her breathless and brimming with desire. But she wanted more than words tonight.
So she turned to face him.
And oh, God help her, she needed a taste of this man. Her lips refused to form the words “but I’m partial to caramel,” because one look and she was partial to him.
Mr. Panty-Melting Voice had a body that begged to be explored, worshipped, and painted. From his square jaw to the way he filled out his tuxedo, he looked as if he was auditioning to be the next James Bond. Maybe he was. This was Vegas, only a hop, skip, and a jump from Hollywood. And in her humble opinion, his short brown hair and green eyes were a lethal combination.
Move over, Daniel Craig...
“I’ve been watching you stare at those paintings for the last few minutes,” he said, his full lips offering a hint of a smile beneath his plain black mask. “Without even glancing at the chocolate fountain.”
“There’s a fountain?” She heard the note of longing in her voice. Chocolate, carbs—those had topped the list of diet no-no’s for the past six months. But tonight, everything was on the table.
“Yes. You might have noticed if you had moved from this spot. So I have to ask, are you waiting for your date? A boyfriend?”
“No.” Her breath caught on the one word. This man had to be someone—a movie star, a model, the perfect male specimen—he couldn’t be for her.
But the thought of walking away and finding another man to explore her fantasies? Impossible. In her mind, she would hear this stranger’s voice. She’d spend the next forty- eight hours craving the deep sound, wishing she could listen to him murmur sweet nothings in her ear as they acted out her fantasies—or even better, his fantasies. If she walked away from him now, she would spend every minute until sunrise wondering about his top four, though she had a feeling he didn’t carry around a pink Post-it note with his wicked desires spelled out.
